Humans are story-telling creatures. By thinking, we all unconsciously “author” a self-story in our heads. Most often, the characters and plot of our story is framed by negative experiences from childhood. These painful “stories” then determine our emotions, leading to unhealthy stress, and changes in body chemistry. This is how a person’s self-story can turn into a stress-related illness. Is Your Story Making You Sick?, is a breakthrough documentary film featuring eight courageous people from all walks of life who suffered from a variety of stress-related illnesses. In four, 4-day workshops over 6-months, these people resolutely challenged their old thinking patterns and began to view themselves and their circumstances differently. Through a variety of leading-edge non-pharmacological healing practices and meaningful and oftentimes arduous work with each other, they changed their perspectives, their stories, and thus their lives. Audiences cannot watch this film without pondering the possibility of their own transformation.

Wow! Watching this movie was a profoundly moving and illuminating experience for me! So much useful information and authentic sharing packed into just fifteen minutes which helped spark insights into how I’m framing my own story.
It was particularly powerful for me to observe the process of workshop participants re-authoring their own individual stories with collective support as well as witnessing their transformation as the film progressed. Inspirational! Thank you!

Wow....I am ready to watch the full documentary to see the transformation of these amazing people. It touched my heart and soul. Learning the 4 main beliefs Gabor said people with Cancer, ALS etc had hit home. I recently was diagnosed with cancer and resonated with each thing Gabor said.

So powerful, so much resonated with me - how people felt, identities/beliefs we take on as necessary coping mechanisms during childhood in order to please parents who are knowingly or unknowingly abusive in some form (the ACE things), how much guilt, shame and fear we carry buried inside us, how unloveable and unworthy we feel, the masks we wear, and how we carry all of this into adulthood even though we no longer need them.
When Gabo Mate` talked about the four common beliefs held by people with serious illnesses it felt like he'd been sitting in on my therapy sessions! I've had a serious illness for a decade and this video made so much sense.
The good news was watching the different ways in which we can heal and break free of our chains and be our true loving and compassionate higher selves, giving that love and compassion to ourselves as well as others. I can't wait to walk the full movie. Thank you for making this version available free of charge.

I nearly teared up by the stories and vulnerability of the people displayed in this short movie. One of the topics this movie touches upon is how we tend to internalize traumatic experiences from the external world and start to identify with them.
We carry this identification throughout our lives and need to see behind it and rediscover our beauty , in order to break from the cycle. No guilt, no shame. Always a pleasure to hear from Mr Maté as well. Thank you for the upload!
